MONTANA BREWING COMPANY WINS 4 MEDALS AT THE GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL®

Billings, MT Oct. 14, 2007—The Montana Brewing Company recently claimed one gold medal, and two silver medals, along with the highest honor of ‘Best Small Brewpub and Small Brewpub Brewer’ at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival Competition, the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States today. The top three winners in the competition’s 75 beer-style categories were announced October 13th at the 26th Great American Beer Festival Awards Ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.

Travis Zeilstra, Montana Brewing Company’s Brewmaster, was recognized in the American Style Hefeweizen beer-style category with a gold medal for its Whitetail Wheat, an unfiltered, light colored wheat ale, a silver medal in the English Style Summer Ale category for its Sandbagger Gold, and a silver medal in the foreign (Export) Style Stouts with its Custer’s Last Stout. MBC is a brewpub located in downtown Billings that specializes in a wide range of microbrews, including seasonal ales such as Beartooth Espresso Porter, made with 5% organic espresso, and Stillwater Rye, a light, spicy beer with hints of coriander and orange peel. “We’re so proud and fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated brewmaster such as Travis. He makes us really stand out from our competition,” says Dan Konen, Owner of MBC.

The 2007 Great American Beer Festival Competition winners were selected by an international panel of brewing experts from an impressive field of 2,832 entries received from 474 U.S. breweries. More than 1,500 breweries were invited to compete. “The Great American Beer Festival is the premier judging event for the American craft beer industry,” says Nancy Johnson, Festival Director.
